This is a story that just kinda popped into my head while listening to Major Tom by Shiny Toy Guns. First came the picture, then the story with it. I'm not very serious about it, I just thought how randomly it came to me was funny, and had to write it down. So I did. XD Please tell me if you like it, or where it may need revising, or if I should even continue it, I have what can happen next, but like I said, I'm not very serious about it. ^.^
“Now Young Kits, listen up. Thousands of Moons ago, when the Clans first settled, there was a Mighty and Powerful Clan called ShroudClan. Not only did it consist of Cats, but larger, and scarier Cats, bigger and Meaner than those of TigerClan and LionClan,” Dictated Emberstep to the small, focused group of kits in front of her. At her words, a gasp was coaxed from the enraptured young cats, who often hung on the old Elder’s every word, “These Cats were known as the Long Fangs. They were ruthless, and killed every one of their opponents, having no care for the Warrior code! Their claws were sharp, and their eyes burned with forever hatred. They were a menace to the other Clans. No one dared fight them, in fear of losing their entire Clan. For years there was a truce against these monsters, sort of like the Warrior code, as long as the clans did not cross their borders, then the Long Fangs would not attack. But of course, the leader of ShroudClan recognized the power he had over the other clans, and started to overstay their welcome, slowly taking bits and pieces of territory away from the others. Now Kits, you may not believe me, but before this event, the River was completely dry! And this is where ShroudClan had their camp.”
The Kits all gasped, their eyes wide in disbelief. “But Emberstep, the River has been there for forever!” Mewed a little Brown Tabby, his eyes as dark and brown as his pelt. “Yeah!” Chimed in a little gray Tom, his mottled pelt shaking with excitement, “The River has been there to protect the Four Clans from Danger ever since…ever!” Both kits started to speak at once, about how unbelievable, and untrue this story was, making their words mash together, and impossible to make out. “Be quiet Mouse Brains!” Rang out the little high pitched voice of a small she-cat. The third kit, her pelt as Yellow as the petals of a flower, broken only by bold jagged lines of a lighter yellow, cuffed both her friends on the ears, and turned her attention back to the frail elder. “Let Emberstep continue!” She demanded, and trained her deep blue eyes back on Emberstep, waiting for her to continue. “Thank you Lighteningkit.” Emberstep purred, her amber eyes twinkling as she went back to weaving the past.
“Well couldn’t stand it, Leafbare was ending, but food was dangerously scarce. Even PebbleClan was suffering! Could you believe they used to live by the ClearPond?” Emberstep let out a rumbling purr of laughter at the very idea. “Don’t ask them about it though, because they will deny it, but it’s as true as StarClan’s love!” Hawkkit, the brown tabby let out a light scoff, receiving a light cuff from his gray brother, Moonkit, and a warning glare from Lighteningkit. Emberstep smiled, and continued. “It was hard times on the Clans, and ShroudClan’s leader saw this. He believed that ShroudClan should have been the only Clan! That they were the only true and deserving Cats, and the other Clans were nothing but weaklings. He sought to end this, to make the clans like they were meant to be. Survival of the fittest. He started with small raids, taking out small groups of cats at a time, from each clan. Each raid group was sent with at least three Long Fangs, the Clan cats had no chance. It was terrible. ShroudClan had managed to eliminate five groups of cats before things started to get desperate. The numbers of the clans were dropping dangerously, and food was as scarce as ever!
“The Clans had thought that StarClan had abandoned them. They wondered why they weren’t doing a thing to help, when their clans were being picked off slowly without any defense. It wasn’t until three tragic deaths, that they learned StarClan was truly watching over them.” Emerberstep blinked her eyes, and fidgeted in her bedding, and paused for a long time. Each kit also began to fidget until finally Lighteningkit spoke up. “What happened next Emberstep!” She wailed in anticipation. The older elder smiled, and purred with amusement. “Oh, you want to hear the rest of the story?” She teased.
“Yes!” The three kits mewed in unison. Emberstep mrrowed in laughter once more, and jumped back into her story. “Well, one day, the LeafClan Medicine cat received a dream from StarClan, that Four cats save the clans. Three were in LeafClan, and the other…well, the story gets vague there, no one remembers that part…it’s really a mystery to all the clans. But when the Medicine cat woke up, and told the leader, they went to look for the three cats…but they were gone! After a long search…they were found dead near the ShadeTree, murdered in their sleep by a ShroudClan Raid group. The LeafClan leader lost all hope. Their only salvation had been killed, dishonorably while they slept. But there was one peculiar thing about these three cats. Each of them had kin in another clan, each of which they cared for incredibly. The clans didn’t know what to do, and StarClan was furious. And to top it all off, ShroudClan was planning a final attack on all the clans that night! It was certain that every cat would be killed, even the kits. Even StarClan was hopeless, but their three new members had a plan. They requested to do something, anything to help the Clans, but it wasn’t allowed…on normal occasions. The three cats had an idea. A flood. They didn’t care what StarClan said, they were going to save their loved ones. That night the three cats, A Warrior, A Queen, and an Apprentice raced from the stars, dragging a great flood behind their paws, their love for their kin, loved ones, and own Clans powering the mighty flood of water, and filling the banks of the Great River, and washing the evil ShroudClan away, drowning them so that they could no longer do harm to the clans. The three cats then attempted to return to Starclan, but found they could not, and instead, were trapped in the rivers. They stayed there from then on, surrounding the Clans, and protecting them forever on.” Emberstep took a long breath, signaling the end of her story.
“But Emberstep…what were the names of the three cats?” Asked Lighteningkit, distressed by the absence of their identities. “Oh…I forgot to mention them didn’t I…” Mewed Emberstep slowly, pausing as her age seemed to effect her memory. “Well…their names were Skygaze, Flowersong, and Mudpaw…Skygaze protecting his mate in PebbleClan, Flowersong protecting her kit in FieldClan, and Mudpaw protecting his sister in NightClan…and if the story holds true…they have descendants still in this clan…” Mewed Emberstep slowly, her words starting to get thick with weariness.
Suddenly, Lighteningkit tilted her head in confusion, and perked up her ears, gaining the attention of both her friends and the slowly falling asleep Emberstep.
“Oh! Those Cats?” She mewed, as if they were nothing but another clanmate. “I see them every day!”
